Looking for a used Makita/Clark foam planer body

I was refurbishing my Makita planer... new bearings and brushes, the modified depth handle etc. and on the first test run I guess I didn't tighten one blade enough and boom!! It came loose, caught on something inside the shroud, shot out a few chunks of plastic and cracked the plastic body is a few places. I haven't yet disassembled it to see if I can possibly epoxy glue it into a workable body again but in the mean time I thought I ask.
Does anyone have an old Makita/Clark Foam style planer that they don't need because it's broken, or old or for some other reason isn't usable to you any more and they would like to sell it? All I need is a usable body, I have everything else in good shape.
Thank you all and aloha

Widowmaker setup for idiots

Ok, so the widowmaker setup has been showing up again in various discussions, which is great. I have a problem, though, and am hoping you kind folks can settle this once and for all. I've researched, I've googled, I've read the old threads but still don't get what the delineation is between a 2+1 setup (single box + side bites) and a widowmaker setup (single box + side bites). I've assumed it has something to do with the actual placement of the side fins with relation to the center fin, but as I look through pics of various supposed "widowmakers" I see the placements all over the place. Some have the sides ahead of the center, some lined up at the leading edge or trailing edge, some with sides further back. What gives? Discussions on the subject seem to trail off into philosophical differences between the two without any basic rules of thumb.
So, please, can someone break it down for me: what's the difference between a widowmaker and2+1 setup?

Selecting a blank to shape...

Hi All,

Looking at making my first board...although planning on making a windsurf board, not a surf board. I am planning on making something in epoxy using, using carbon re-enforcement (biax, and a carbon/kevlar twill). I am pretty experienced with composites, having repaired sailing dinghies to insurance standards professionally for a while, and pretty familar with using a vac pump etc...

Anyhow, I am trying to work out what to use for a blank to shape out of. I found a guide on the SP Systems site before they binned, it recommending using Styrofoam for a blank...but could I ask more experienced people if this would be suitable:

http://www.jewson.co.uk/building-materials/thermal-insulation/extruded-p...

I am trying to source something local to use and they are literally about 3 miles away from where I live. I have tried searching the subject but couldn't find much in the way of resuls.

Anyhow, thanks in advance,

Mark.

I have a couple boards that are for sale.
I'd like to post photos on SurfShop here.
What are the guidelines for this section of Sways?
Are the fees or a percentage due upon sale?

SHEARS

...hello,
I have several scissors in different lengths. Good quality but the brand that I use does not make "shears" type of scissors; you know, the ones that is easy to cut without to stop...

Do you know a quality brand to recommend? Possibly an international order for me.

Thanks

Stubby shortboard rocker

Hi

What would be the rocker measurements on a stubby 5´8 shortboard (Dumpster diver type) for small to medium size waves, waist to head high, beach breaks?
Nose rocker and tail rocker, considering it has a continous rocker, not staged, and a slight to medium single to double concave, nothing to extreme.

What would be the minimum and maximum rockers a board like this would work with?

I´ll try to upload a pic , lets see what you think about this design.

...I stumbled to this link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRr1xbxWbBg

I tell you they are trying very hard to take away this industry from the hands of the surfers...still trying but without luck.
The only problem that I see is people like Slater and his followers. The followers can do (and buy) whatever he shows as the ultimate surfboard. Letting the industry in hands of the businessmen.

So many TERRIBLE ding repair videos on Youtube...

This is the first thing that comes to mind in moments like this. Like in the movie Ice Age. When all the dodo birds have 3 melons to keep them alive.
This will be the last fish fry I do at this location.
So if you can come on over on the 18th of this month from 6 to 9 for the last fish fry I do at this location.

Experimenting with multi-color hot coats

I dropped by my friend Charlie’s house and noticed a yellow short board half-glassed in his rafters. He said I could have it because it was sitting there for years unfinished and it was only laminated with no leash plug or fin boxes. I told him that the size (5’9” x 19” x 2 5/8”) would be perfect for my 11 year old granddaughter. When I brought it home I noticed that the laminated only glass job was stained so I tried my best to clean it up with acetone. It cleaned up a bit but the stains were still noticeable. I was deciding to either hot coat sand it and air brush it or try a multi-color hot coats coloring to mask the stains. I decided on the multi-color hot coats because I only heard about it but never tried it.
I first laid down a coat of orange color laminating resin thinned with Styrene and after that dried I topped it with a golden yellow hot coat with surfacing agent. After that dried and cured, I sanded like normal and finished up with a polished gloss coat. It came out unique and the granddaughter loves it. Now I need to pick up a set of Future fins.

3D printing with cellulose (wood) becoming practical

Hi,

An article from physorg, discusses new methods to make environmentally friendly 3D printed parts from cellulose-like polymers.

Yes, eventually you could make a surfboard .... but that's not the point as its likely shaping and design will still matter.

"For centuries, cellulose has formed the basis of the world's most abundantly printed-on material: paper. Now, thanks to new research at MIT, it may also become an abundant material to print with—potentially providing a renewable, biodegradable alternative to the polymers currently used in 3-D printing materials. "

Thanks.

Partially to bring something up aside from spam posts, and partially because I am curious. NWSD has a good looking board i've been interested in Card

But im not sure how well singles will perform in oregon? I love the feeling of projection and glide they provide, but realistically im probably not good enough to make some of the harder sections when the waves aren't perfect. And in Oregon they only get perfect a select amount of times per year. So to anyone with a larger knowledge of this style of board, any recommendations? I don't have a lot of spare cash to burn so getting the right board to advance on that I won't regret buying is very important.

Foam E-Z Exlcusive Clark Foam Interviews

EXCERPT FROM THE LATEST FOAM E-Z BLOG FEATURING EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS WITH CLARK FOAM FORMER EMPLOYEES:

In 2005 Robert Kelly Slater won his seventh ASP World Title, famously to the ire of runner-up and long-term adversary, Andy Irons. In 2005 Ben Stiller made an unexpected cameo appearance in the Taj Burrow classic Fair Bits!, alongside the likes of super-talents such as the Malloy brothers and Rob Machado. In 2005 the ever-fickle Mundaka event was cancelled when the waves, in a less than shocking manner, failed to arrive. On December 5th, 2005, Clark Foam unexpectedly closed its factory doors forever.
It’s been just over a decade since the surfing industry was thrown for a loop when it’s largest supplier of surfboard blanks called it quits, leaving thousands of board builders, industry insiders, and surfers scrambling for emergency solutions. Speculation over the cause of this sudden closure and what it would mean for surfing in general flew rampant (with varying degrees of truth and accuracy), and people were justifiably scared and confused. In the time since, much has been said and written about this incident, and of course the sport and industry has recovered, and in fact even grown, as a result.
Yes, by now almost everything that could be said about this occurrence has been. Our intention is not to provide you a play-by-play history of the final days of Clark Foam. Even the most cursory Internet search will provide you with that information. The fact of the matter is that Clark Foam was both directly and indirectly a part of many peoples lives and livelihoods, and often time the true nature of any event lies in those more personal experiences. For the former employees and distributors of Clark Foam, this is truer than for most. Though Clark is no longer around, it’s legacy and standard for quality have shaped what the surfboard industry has become.

Fastest end-to-end board you have ever done?

So it takes me about two weeks to go end-to-end on a board build. I have a full time job, commute on a train, have to travel on business. However, I'm thinking about trying to do a quality board from foam to polish in a weekend by myself. I think this is perfectly doable. But, can I do this in a single 24 hour period? 12 hours? Less?

Special Resin Tint Colors

Hey I am a beginner shaper. I have shaped and glassed about 10 boards. For my last 4 boards or so I have played around with resin tints. My question is the online sites that sell tint seem to only have basic colors: red, blue, yellow, orange ect. Online I see some pretty awesome tinted glass jobs that I don't think I can match like a light blue, tan or olive. I've tried to get a nice light baby blue just by using less of my regular royal blue but it doesn't look the same. It just looks like less saturated royal blue.

Do any of you know where to get some more specialty resin tint colors for Poly resin? Or are boards like Almond surfboards for instance just mixing the basic primary colors to get their special tints?

These boards below:
1. Mini simmons i mixed blue and yellow for the green
2. Groveler I found some magenta tint on foamEZ.com
